My successful matchup shopping trip.

Today I hit Walmart with my extra large coupon binder and a 2 page
list of store items to check out and seeing if it's the best deals
(or sometimes not).

I had a lot of fun and each time learn quite a bit each time.

All went very smoothly without incident as my previous adventure was.

Also, had Haylee with me, (which is a fab life lesson for our homeschool hours),
so she uses one cart to have regular priced items/and coupons matches only,
and I have a basket with price matchups and/or coupons.

I had very close to $60 of coupons.  And LOTS of price matchups.

Many weren't but a few cents here and there but all adds up.

Here is a list of a few of my fav's.

(please keep in mind, I live near Heber Springs, AR
so these are prices near my town)

General Mills cereals (up to 13 oz)
Wm - $2.82-$2.98  = Edward's Food Giant - $1.48 + -50c. coupon.

Oscar Meyer bacon (1 lb pkg)
Wm $4.48 = Knight's Super Foods - $1.99 ea

Bush's baked beans (28oz)
WM $1.98 = Edward's Food Giant - $1.78 + - 50c. coupon

Angel Soft bath tissue (24 roll)
WM $ 10.97 = Cash Saver@Newport $5.45+10% = $6.05

Paper Mate Ink Joy pens (8ct)
WM $3+? = Staples - $1.00/pk

Planters Peanuts 16 oz -
Wm $3,50 = in store coupon from Family Dollar insert $3.00

And remember - like I stated earlier,  I had LOTS of coupons and many small matchups that add up really quickly!

Also, I NEVER buy anything with or without a matchup with coupon and sale if I wouldn't already purchase it or want to try it anyway!

A hint to help a LOT when you get to the register that will make things run SOOO much smoother, is make sure to carry the smalles size of  "post it" notes, and write where you are matching and the price, and stick it to the items.

When I saw on a site to do that - it helps sooooo much!

Also, I try my best to group all my "like" items together as I set them on the belt, and try to seperate the price matches seperate from the regular priced items.

You will be amazed at how easy, and how much fun it could be to play this.

And you save money at the same time.

With all the coupons and price matchups I had along with using Ibotta (a phone app)
I think I saved approximately $136.00 in all.

It's like getting free turns on the board of Monopoly and landing on Free Parking.

Remember, have fun!
KNOW the rules!
Play fair and enjoy!!!

New updated list of stores I price match to:

I have updated my list for online viewing of all the main stores
I like to try to price match to my local Wal-mart store.

(There are a few more, but they don't always
post sales in the local paper and/or online.)

Remember - play the game of coupon-ing and price-matching by the rules.

Know all the rules and stick to them and when you are very certain you are right - Stand your ground.

Corporate makes these rules to bring in our business.

If our local store wants our business as much as Corporate does - they will
play by the rules the same as we are suppose to.

And remember - Bring your PROFESSIONAL attitude!!

My latest shopping adventure!

For lack of a better title at the moment.

My latest adventure, as you will soon read,
was just that - quite an adventure.

I have been price matching (ad match)/couponing for several years now.
From time to time, run into a question or altercation about this or that, and usually work
it out in a reasonable way.

Yesterday (Monday 4/27) was different!

I had a list of several items, an aide with my mom for a couple of hour, and had Haylee with me, which she is so good at this too in checking ounces, etc, sort of math lesson.

She usually has a basket with the regular items in it and I take care of a basket with the price matching items in it.  Makes it so much more simple when ready to check out to keep all straight for me and faster/easier for cashier when doing so.

First of all:
I have ALWAYS  prided myself on the honesty and respect I try to use when using this feature as I know it's a bit bonkers, everyone has an opinion on things, etc.

I try to be extremely certain of the rules of the game, the item I am after, and the exact size, etc., of that match.

Even with Cash Saver adding 10% at their check out, I make sure to have it already on my list with the price of sale + 10% already added and really to make sure the cashier even knows both prices so they can see I did my homework as fairly as possible to make the transactions as smooth as possible!

I know there are several people out there all the time that are trying to do an extremely advanced job and even not making sure at presenting all the information or be a little vague on it so they can get the products through.

WE are NOT a big city with big city stores that have all the buildup of overlapping stuff.
I just want to try my best to save what I can with this feature that is allowed to us to save time and money not to have to travel further and to get to many different stores to find the sales.

Well as my story continues:

My very first item I tried to "price match" was to a store that I have price matched to for a very long time and NEVER really had a problem with.

Yes, I have been asked for sure what store and where it is located.  I have NO problem with that.

Yes, too - I have had the cashier check to confirm what size/type of item is offered in the sale.  I get that - it's only fair and their job to try to make sure we are correct also.
If I EVER have any doubt at all, I either don't get the item, or pay regular price.
Well, with the very first item, the CSM was called over to the register. (No names mentioned - for now).

She immediately wanted to know where and what price.  No problem.
It happened to be Edwards Food Giant in Little Rock.

She said she needed for me to show the ad or pull up on my phone.  I refused stating I don't have to prove it, have never proved it, and corporate policy states I don't have to prove it.

CORPORATE policy states:   (copied directly from: http://corporate.walmart.com/ad-match-guarantee

*The following are guidelines and limitations:

·                            We will match any local competitor's advertised price.
·                            We do not require customers to have the ad with them to honor a competitor's ad, but we reserve the right to verify an ad at any time; we also require the store to verify the ad if there is a difference in price greater than 25% from the competitor.

She continued raising her voice to me (and Haylee) determined if I was NOT going to show the ad, she was NOT about to let me have the item at the price matching price.

After standing my ground for a good couple of minutes, and her continuing to raise her voice to me, shake a paper at me stating it's a new policy for the store and item to be proven, (but not offering to show me that paper) I saw I was getting absolutely no where.

I proceeded to get my purse, bag and coupon book and direct Haylee out the door.
WITHOUT ANY OTHER SINGLE item in my hands.

We walked out with 2 baskets of stuff which much of it was price matched or coupon to go with it still sitting at the register!!

I felt that I had better just sort of retreat as  I could feel that I was NOT going to be handling this very professionally and needed to regain some composure before proceeding.

When I arrived at my car, while still in Wal-mart parking lot, I called for the manager on my cell phone.

Finally spoke with an assistant manager, stating the head manager was out.
I went over the entire story, what I was doing, what went wrong and with WHO.
I also explained how this CSM raised her voice, waved a paper at me, that was not actually shown to me, and stomped her foot once even.

She clearly understood how frustrated, embarrassed and totally ticked I was.
I did NOT go into any excuses of life of this and that - I stuck exactly to the facts
of the problem at hand.  My life info is NOT anyone's to know in this event as many bring up to get more "sympathy."

Keep it simple, determined and KNOW your facts!!!

The assistant manager apologized several times for the mis-understanding and told me to make sure to ask for her if I had that problem again with this particular CSM or any other one.

When she realized I was still in the parking lot, she put me on hold and checked to see if my baskets were still up front.

They were except for a few frozen food and dairy items being taken back.
She told me that if I would head back in, to meet with another assistant manager up front, he would see to it that I was checked out and no more problems would arise.

Which is exactly what happened, my baskets were brought to me, and someone was getting the items I had in it from dairy and frozen back to me.

While still with one of the assistant managers, and a couple of other CSM,s (at times) the current CMS that I had the issue with, asked me if I would mind for her to check me out.
I said I didn't have any problem with that.

She proceeded to an empty register, items were loaded onto the belt by employees as I went over each item to match to, and even made sure each price match was understood to be as correct as I had stated in the beginning the first time and every time.

All info is always on my list.  Place/size,/item and if any restrictions, it's on there too.

She asked and I answered every single store, item price to match, sizes involved and any restrictions on such items.

The CSM, herself, found absolutely NOTHING wrong with any one single item I had.

As I finished up I thanked the asst. mgr that assisted us, and the employees for helping
too.  I left there being very nice and very professional.

Once again, I would like to make sure it is understood that this is a really super thing that Wal-mart provides for us to be able to do.  I, in NO way want to make this challenging to cashiers, or other employees of the store.

I DO NOT want to push the rules.  I am a good game player.  I want to play fair, treat fair, but I EXPECT - NOTHING less than that from the stores.  In ANY situation!

If I am ever in any doubt as to a rule on this situation or any other, I make a call to check on the rules.  If not sure or the person I speak with seems unsure, I will call back to make sure to speak to another person to see their viewpoint on it.  I have done this with MANY
situations.

If I ever feel, as like yesterday, I cannot maintain an absolutely professional attitude with
myself, I will retreat, regroup and go back.

But I too make DARN tootin' sure I am exactly in the right!!!!

Remember, at all cost, in ANY situation in life, whether it be shopping, marriage, - Life
in general,  make darn sure you are in the absolutely with out a doubt right - then
go for it.  STAND YOUR GROUND.
Even if it means retreat - regroup and go again.  LOL!
I think of all days for Haylee who is 8 yrs old and a darn good shopper already,
learned a very valuable lesson yesterday.

** Play fair - know the rules of the game (whatever game it may be) and STAND your ground no matter what.  And expect NOTHING less from everyone else.

You are NOT better than anyone - never let anyone EVER make you feel that way, but first of all KNOW the rules and stick to them!

P.S.  New sales come out Wednesday morning.  I WILL be at Walmart bright and early with an even more lengthy list of price matches (even for a very few cents which I usually don't match under a few pennies, I will now, and WILL not give in - when and if I know I am in the right.

Now, all this being stated.  I DO NOT believe it is my right or anyone else's to go into any store demanding anything!

I believe it is our right as customers to use the rules of the game as stated by such store whether it be corporate ran or franchise ran.
Find out the rules - and stick to them - with a TOTAL PROFESSIONAL attitude!
Yes they are there to provide product/service for us.  Yes, customer is suppose to always be right, but we are dealing with someone not one iota better or worse than ourselves.
If the positions were reversed, keep in mind how you would want to be spoken to.

God bless and have a wonderful day and keep those price matchings and couponing's
fun and play the game fair!

My favorite online coupon sites to print from

Here is a list of my most reliable sites to find and print at home,
coupons that I will be needing to use for regular use or my
ultimate matchups is with price matching along with coupons.

I try not to print anything I will not be using, therefore I don't
use any extra ink or paper which adds up really quickly.

You can print 2 times from each coupon (normally).
Most of the time the coupon goes to the end
of all of the listings so you have to search a bit.

Also, you can print from different sources if you like.
If it's one I really need, I can print from 2 different sources.

My shopping adventure 9/13/13

I made a run to Walmart for some matchup shopping.
Scored some great deals on meats and made sure to stock up a bit.  :)

So pumped at the savings I got today by checking ads in local paper
and checking out a very few websites.
No coupon clipped at all for these savings I have listed!
I did have several for other things with little savings here and there.
I don't think I bought over a dozen items not on sale and/or coupons.

LOVE IT!  Talk about a fun game.  hehe!

Here are some of my matchups so you can try to grab some too.
(I wrote how many I purchased of each so you can see the
totals at the end.

I purchased:

2x Ground chuck (family pk) matched to
Sherwood Grocery for $13.15 (2.38/lb) to
Walmart price of $19.98 ($3.56/lb)
**That's a savings of $6.83/per pkg!!

2x Chicken breast (frozen 5 lb bag store brand) matched to
Edward's Food Giant $5.98 (avg. 1.19/lb) to
Walmart price of $11.98 (avg 2.40/lb)
** That's a savings of $6.00/bag ($1.21/lb)!!

2x Cube Steak (family pk) matched to
Sherwood Grocery $2.29/lb
Walmart $4.48/lb
**That's a savings of $2.20/lb

Other saving items were:

3x Eggs - medium store brand
Parker's Big Star (Quitman) $.89/doz
Walmart $1.74/doz
**Savings of $.85/per doz.

4x General Mills Cereals up to 21.6 oz
Knight's Super Foods - 2/$5 ($2.50 ea)
Walmart - avg price $3.98
**Savings of 1.46/per box

4x Shredded Cheese - store brand 8 oz
Cash Saver @ Greenbrier - 1.46+10%=$1.61/ea
**Walmart - $2.18
Thats a savings of $0.57/per pkg

4x Kraft cheese singles (16 slices)
Kroger - $1.49/pkg
Walmart $2.98/pkg
**That's savings of 1/2 = $1.49 saved per pkg.

4x Pringles - any variety regular can
Cash Saver (Heber) $0.75/ea+10%=$.83
Walmart $1.50 each
**Thats a savings of $0.67/per can

2x Oscar Meyer bacon 12-16oz pkg
Kroger $4.99
Walmart - forgot to write down but almost postive
it was about $2. off.

I forgot to check the savings but you ought to on
Top sirloin steaks (family pack)
Sherwood Grocery - $3.49/lb
Walmart - ?

On the meats I purchased 2 pkgs of each
and Walmart price would have been $72.08
I matched them and only paid $44.24
***I saved $27.84 on just meats with matchups
*(not counting top sirloin savings)

On a total of savings:
Walmart - $121.86
My price match down to $72.03 on items listed.

That's just on the items that I wrote here.
I had smaller savings and didn't track them as good.

Remember - you do NOT have to present the ads
when checking out - this is CORPORATE policy.

It is so much easier if you check out with all your
price matching items all together and your list ready
therefore you present yourself as you know what
you are talking about.
I try my best to make sure the cashier has all the info
she needs on which store, price per lb. for that size, etc.

And don't forget to be nice.
Stand your ground if you happen to have a question
from the cashier.  Never be afraid to ask for supervisor cashier.

Many times the cashier's or the supervisors come up
to me and ask what I have saved on today.
Talk about fun!  That's a blast.  I have many times
handed over my list to someone else or just fill
them in on the info.

I do this so often I hardly ever get any questions,
but never know, once in a while someone does
balk.  I have even had the supervisor do so too,
but when I explain and have them check their
own "corporate" rules, it's usually resolved
very easily.

And look at the savings that is sooooo well worth it!!

And have fun!!!

How to Cut Your Grocery Bill in Half

I ran across this site and totally LOVE and agree with it!

This has worked soooo well for my household to save money on groceries.

Instead of running from one store to another - I don't have the
time or energy for - I price match my items
at my local Walmart.

Be sure to become familiar with the store policy for matching.

Fake Betty Crocker Cookie Mixes

A great way to save money and to know exactly what ingredients you have in
Chocolate Chip Cookie Mixa prepackaged mix, is to make up your own.

Here is a site that has figured out some of the simple premade mixes
from Betty Crocker.  Such as chocolate chip, oatmeal, sugar and gingerbread

Would be even more of a money saver to find many of the ingredients
on sale and/or price match them.

I know I am going to try to make up some of these for last minute ideas
to have on hand.  Especially around the holidays.

Thanks to fakeitfrugal.blogspot.com for the ideas.

Grocery stores I price match with.

Here is a list of my favorite stores to check on sales to price
match to my local Walmart.

Remember I live near Heber Springs area, and have checked with the
location here and they will match with approximately 50 mile radius
including Little Rock area.

Just because you may not live close to this location - doesn't mean you
can't search and set up a list of stores that you can do the same thing with.

This list include stores that are mainly grocery type stores
and their sales run from Wednesday to Tuesday at closing.

Update to Walmart Store Policy

This is from www.stockpilingmoms.com.

Be sure to read the online policy at Walmart.com (search policy).
This is suppose to be an update to the corporate one online.

Be sure to check with your local store to make sure it works -
I have been informed it does work.

The link for the update is:

Walmart Deals for week:: 2/16 – 2/23

Here is a list of all current available matchups
including the upcoming week of 2/16 to 2/23.

This doesn't include if you are able to find a sale
on the items on this list.

That would make an even better price matchup.
So check those sale papers and online ads.

Walmart ad match guaranted policy

This is a link to the Corporate police of their
ad-match (price match) guarantee.

This is a policy set by Corporation of
Walmart - therefore stores are not
suppose to vary from it as in a few
cases I know of, someone will try.

Good idea to print this and even save a
shortcut on your
smart phone - just in case a situation
arises as may from time to time.

Link is:

Walmart coupon policy

Corporate coupon policy

Be sure to take a look at this and learn what
types of coupons qualifyat their store.
This saves time at the checkout.

You may want to print and have it with you when
you first start using coupons regularly just
in case.

I even have a shortcut of it on my smartphone just
for if there are any questions between cashier
and myself on what qualifies.

Don't even hesitate ask for the CSM
(customer service mgr) to verify any questions.

How do I price match? Take a look!

I have had several inquiries as to just how I am able to do all this price matching at
Wal-Mart from so many stores so here goes. Any questions - just let me know.
It's not perfect by no means, but it great works for me.
I will try to start a regular blog entry or on facebook posts to keep up with the ones

who are interested in following. You can also follow my blog. :)
And HAPPY MATCHIN' AND CLIPPIN' :)

**These are types of rules I try to follow and usually never
have any kind of problem with it working. I have been
doing this pretty steadily for about 2 years now
and LOVE it.

I started out like most, trying my best at the couponing,
and did a good job, but it was so much to keep up with,
to organize and had to have time to sort, staple, cut, file,
then date and REMEMER to use them.
Yikes!!!

I LOVE coupons and really try to still keep up with them,
but nothing like I use to.

Many times I just concentrate on the price matching.
I can save much more with less effort this way.

Coupons are bonuses to price matching.
If I get both, I just made a touchdown. Woo Hoo!!

Many will say they don’t have time to do all this.
NO way you have to “do all this. Do any little part you
can - when you can and there is NO way you and your family
won’t benefit from it. I don’t think anyone cannot find just a few
minutes during the week to look over a few ads while watching
tv or online with friends. Would you love a raise this week?
Who wouldn't!! So make one yourself.

I hardly every get the chance to leave Heber Springs to do any
shopping from store to store. Besides I think that is even harder
than price matching. I know, I too get tired of the Wal-Mart taking
over the small businesses, so I do try to shop at the competing
stores whenever I do get the chance.
And I try to visit my local ones regularly for their sale items.

I do NOT buy anything I wouldn’t purchase anyway or wouldn’t want to try for something new.

And ANYTHING can be price matched at Wal-Mart!
Produce, meats, generic/store brands – all if it!

Make very sure you have the absolute correct sale dates, item size/quantity to match.
Also check that the generic or store brand is higher or lower than the brand names on sale.
I try to use many store and generic brands when I can. A few cents is a few cents!!

I started out doing this with the mindset that since we are a single family income household,
if I can save even $20.00 a week, it is the same as giving my husband a $ .50 cents an hour raise.

Geez, who wouldn’t love that!!!

Now I can at least give him the same as a $1.00 or more raise each and every week.

I have cut our shopping nearly in half, so I use the extra money to buy one or two
more of each item I save on to use as a little stockpile for the lean months.
Or those months you know you have birthday’s, vacations, Christmas to save
for so every little bit helps not to have to spend as much on groceries.

Besides many people live within a paycheck or two of having problems paying their bills.
Certainly can't do without feeding your family.  So what if you work on a little stockpile
of house/food inventory to cover those just in case emergencies with the item you can stock on now.
Can you imagine not going to the grocery store for a week, month,
or longer.  I can almost do that now.  Only needing fresh fruit & veggies & milk.

One thing is for sure that helps a lot, is to try to get the family to agree with the fact
that you will be buying different toothpastes, razors, seasonal fruits and veggies
and paper products at times, (maybe even dollar store types when there hasn’t
been a sale).
Call them experimenting with different brands and many times just might find something
you like even more.

Remember to try to get a little extra with your savings each week, put it back in a
spare shelf even in the closet if necessary, then keep looking for deals.
Even a very few extra items will add up quickly when needed. There are times I
have used mainly from my stock just to see how long it lasts and can easily run
a month without any shopping except for fresh items needed.
Makes for a happy mama.

I am not one of the extreme ones as on tv. There is no way you can pull that off
around here. But I will do what I can with what I have. Shouldn’t we do
that anyway? And do NONE of this on credit. Cash only for me. :)

NEVER buy anything at regular price if you don’t have to. If you do, make sure
the “value” size and price is really the best value.  There are many times I
find the item I am searching for to match, and there is a cheaper one or
store brand one less. So don’t be disappointed. Some weeks are better
than others.

I have definitely found out – there are many more items on sale at the first of
the month, to get the fixed income people with checks at the first to hit their
stores, but not always the best sales. A lot of times later in the month are t
he bigger discounts on the items but less of them listed. Tricky huh. Yes it is.
Get into the minds of the store sales people and match with them of sorts. :)

My Rules:

If you want to match, try to make sure that you are approx,
50 miles from these stores.  Little Rock is a bit farther than that from me,
but our local Wal-Mart will match them without any problem.

Remember wholesale are not considered fair to Wal-Mart so usually won’t
match for those type stores.

Usually all store sales begin on either Sunday and end at close Saturday night,
or Wednesday and end at close on Tuesday night. So really only 2 times a
week to have to spend some time on checking out ads.

I usually keep a legal note pad handy to write the key items I see onto so I
can go from that “draft” list when making my shopping/matching list.

I also purchased a binder and put my printed ads in clear sleeves with tabs
for each name of store so I can access them quickly when I run across something
I need to go back and check. Helps save a lot of time.
Even though Wal-Mart does NOT require you to show the ad when you are
price matching, it’s so helpful if there is a question to have it with you or if
you think of something else to check on. Trust me – it’s easier.

The few more minutes you use to make sure you are ready and armed with info,
the smoother your shopping trip will go for everyone involved.

Be sure to print out a copy of the Wal-Mart price matching policy and the
coupon policy and have with you just in case you have a problem.
And try to learn key parts.

Remember these stores have high turnover in employees and it is very complicated
all the “rules and procedures” they have to keep track of.

And probably #1 on this is – be nice.
Joke around. Keep a smile on that pretty lil face of yours. And I never blame
them for being wrong,  I always act like I am having a “senior” moment and
that perhaps we need to check to see if “I’m” the incorrect one. :)

These are just people too just like us but have to answer to someone above them
on each thing they do. And yes, some act as if we are taking money out of
their pockets, but that’s ok too. Go along with them! I have worked this
and made many friends out of the grumpiest ones now.

I ALWAYS compliment and thank the cashier for their extra attention on checking
me out. Then the next time they don’t dread ringing up each individual item of
24 cans of green beans. lol! :)

I have even had some tell me another ad cheaper that I missed on items, or new
places to match at, write some of them down for them to use when they get off
work, and even use my prices on the next customer to make up for having them
wait a little longer.

It’s all a game and we are all players in it. Be a fun player. Get your fair share but
don’t dip too much into their pot either or they may end up taking away the
challenge of matching. :)

It’s exciting each Saturday night before Sunday sales come out and on Tuesday
nights before Wednesday sales come out. Can’t hardly sleep. lol! I think that is
called addict. Bahaha!!

Happy matchin' and clippin' safely out there.
